Who is Christopher Nolan?

Do you still not know Christopher Nolan, one of the most well-known and successful directors of recent years? We talked about everything that can be known about Nolan, one of the masters of science fiction. Here you go:

The Life of Christopher Nolan

Christopher Edward Nolan was born on July 30, 1970, in London, England, and is recognized as one of the highest-grossing directors of all time, as well as one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of his generation. Since his directorial debut with the British neo-crime drama Following in 1998, Nolan’s 11 films have grossed over $4.9 billion worldwide and received a total of 26 Oscar nominations, including 7 wins. Nolan’s passion for filmmaking began at age 7, when he borrowed his father’s Super 8 camera to shoot primitive movies with toy action figures. He stated in interviews that he wanted to make films professionally since he was 11 years old. Influenced by Star Wars in 1978, he shot a stop-motion (a type of 3D animation) called Space Wars, and was even able to use NASA footage, thanks to his uncle who helped set up guidance systems for Apollo rockets.

Nolan was educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College in Hertfordshire and later at University College London. He chose the university primarily for its filmmaking resources, where he became president of the Union’s Film Society. He made three independent films during his time at UCL. One of them, Larceny (1995), was screened at the Cambridge Film Festival in 1996 and is still considered one of the best university shorts ever made.

During this time, Nolan met and began dating fellow student Emma Thomas, who is now a successful filmmaker. The couple married in 1997 and in 2001 founded Syncopy Inc., the production company they now co-direct and publish many of Nolan’s most successful films.

Nolan’s 2017 release of Dunkirk is considered by many to be his most daring and ambitious production ever. It garnered almost universal praise from critics and audiences for its questionable narration, powerful script, dramatic musical soundtrack, and cinematography.

With $525 million in worldwide purchases, it is currently the highest-grossing WWII movie of all time and is considered by many to be Nolan’s best work. His other films include Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and TENET released this year.

Nolan currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four children. Although he keeps his personal life very private, journalists interviewing him describe him as outspoken and pleasant.
