Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. Statistics show that one person dies from cardiovascular disease every 36 seconds in the United States. In Australia, this rate is stated as every 12 minutes.

As a research assistant at UniSA, Dr. Alexandra Wade says this study provides new evidence linking yogurt with positive results in people with high blood pressure.

“High blood pressure is the number one risk factor for cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. wade. “Therefore, it is important that we continue to find new ways to reduce and regulate high blood pressure.”

“Dairy products, especially yogurt, can reduce blood pressure.

“This is because dairy products contain a host of micronutrients, including calcium, magnesium and potassium. All of these are related to the regulation of blood pressure.

“Yogurt is particularly interesting here because it contains bacteria that promote the production of proteins that lower blood pressure.

“This study shows that even small amounts of yogurt are associated with lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. The study was published in the International Dairy Journal.
